There is always a demand for antique "lemon gold"
frames. These are sought after for framing antique artwork. These
frames are almost always "silver gilt", meaning the leafing
is done with silver, and the color obtained by use of tinted finishes.
The black markings often seen on antique frames occurs when this surface
finish is damaged, allowing the silver beneath the finish to blacken.
Hunting for antique frames can be frustrating, since
the frame is never the required size, and must be cut and rejoined,
or else there are condition issues. Our custom frames solve these
problems. They are available in a number of molding
profiles, and colors and patination can be adjusted as desired.
